“Whatever IT is, she’s got it.” – Kevin Pollak; Actor, Comedian
Come on out and see what a whirlwind comedy show is like …in the slow lane!
Life in the slow lane
Slow down there Sparky. Maybe the time has come to stop and smell the laughter! At least that is the attitude of deadpan funny lady Sonya King. It is true that she is quiet, but her audience is not. They
are too busy laughing! And you can hear that laughter in every corner of the country as Sonya makes her way from one coast to the other quietly making a big noise.
Originally from Selma, Alabama, Sonya grew up in sunny San Diego just one block from the beach. Combine those two worlds with a healthy dose of dry humor and what do you get? You get funny!
With encouragement from her husband, her two children and a supportive family, she entered a local comedy contest and that’s all it took – she was hooked! Starting in 1999 she began working her way across the nation toiling on the comedy club circuit while performing college dates and corporate events.
She has done voice over work, written for radio, and even has her own weekly radio segment for Cumulus Media. Sonya won the Carnival Cruise Comedy Competition which led to a great deal of work for various cruise lines. She appeared on Good Morning America on ABC, but really stirred things up with her appearance on ABC’s The View with Barbara Walters and Joy Behar. That led to an appearance with Joy at famed Caroline’s Comedy Club in New York City.
And just to show you how original a comedy act can be in this jaded day and age, how about this. She also plays the banjo (see, I told you she was from Alabama). This is a show you have to put on your must see list. Sonya is not just deadpan…she actually killed the pan!
“I had the privilege of watching you perform tonight. Along with many others, I was the one crying from laughter on your left side, right next to the stage. I realize that everyone has problems. In the last six months, I have lost 4 relatives including my 22 year old son. It’s been a long time since I have not only laughed, but laughed that hard and that long. I cannot thank you enough for what you did for me. PLEASE, continue your wonderful performance and ALWAYS tell your children that you love them because tomorrow is not promised to us. Thank you again.” – Ralph P
