Josh went to the emergency room today because of an injury he got at Walmart. I knew back when they stopped handing out smiley face stickers there was gonna be trouble!
Here’s what happened: Josh picked up a single case of water off a wooden pallet, and the over-stacked one next to it fell on his arms as he was lifting up. He’s been in a lot of pain ever since. His sensory issues seem to have jumped into high gear when this happened, so the trip to the ER was overwhelming for him. Every sound seemed to agitate him, the lights were too bright, he kept tugging at the mask he was wearing, and just couldn’t get comfortable the entire time we were there.
Josh is the size of a grown man, and he has a furry face, so when the ER people saw him they began a conversation with him, asking what happened. Sometimes that works, but when the stimulus is too much to bear like it was, he just pointed at me and grunted. I know the code, so I stepped in and answered for him.
The ER doctor said that it’ll probably be about six weeks before Josh is feeling completely well again. And, through x-rays it was discovered that Josh has an extra vertebrae…T13 to be exact! Did I mention that 13 is Josh’s favorite number? He mentioned it to me about a hundred times that day!
The doctor called it an anomaly…Josh is convinced it’s one of his super powers. I guess he’s right…it already has me doing his laundry.
