Because Josh has Autism he deals with sensory overload on a regular basis. When he’s in a situation where he has multiple demands placed on him, he says it builds up to uncomfortable, and then becomes flat out painful.
Josh has had years of therapy in different forms that have given him ways of dealing with the daily stressors that he experiences. The parts of life that therapy can’t touch, is the constant intake of information coming in all at once, and how a body physiologically interprets and processes that stimuli.
Autism amplifies that physiological reaction. Emotions and mental clarity follow suit, and in tandem, the feelings intensify, and create the desire to just make it stop. That means often times leaving a location, activity, and interaction.
Josh has learned to deal with this scenario. It happens most days, and yet he keeps showing up.
Someone told me that Josh is an angel…I don’t know if that’s true, but in the very least, he sure seem super human.
