People on the autism spectrum are awesome. At least the ones I’ve met are. Day to day living with the ones in my family takes patience, understanding, and sticktoitiveness. I’m SURE they’d say the same thing about me.
Living with someone takes some getting used to, diagnosis or not! But for me, living with two people on the spectrum (my son and grandson) requires endless compromise. I’m constantly learning the “right” way to do most of the things I do, why I should stop doing the things I do, and figuring out the things that I need to do. It’s just like marriage!
Consistency and routine are mandatory. I get that. The struggle is in getting the two guys I mentioned above to focus on accomplishing anything that’s not of interest to them. If they don’t like it, it doesn’t get done. That’s a super power in itself! I want that super power too!!
