~ Clearly Muddled Blog ~
It might seem at times that a person with Autism isn’t cooperating, or that the laying around couch potato style is useless. People that don’t understand Autism might think the necessary down time is laziness. But boy, that misses the mark entirely. It’s Incorrect. It’s inaccurate. It’s wrong sir, wrong. (Willy Wonka reference right there!)
I used to get frustrated with Josh for doing “nothing”. Turns out though, there’s a gigantic heaping dose of something going on…it just looked like nothing from out here in the cheap seats. It takes energy and effort for the regrouping, sorting out, recharging, and preparing it takes for a person that feels EVERYTHING to deal with our demanding and unforgiving society.
Josh works hard at understanding himself. He also works hard on learning how to interact with others. A while back, the idea that others could be thinking something different than what was obvious to him, in his words, was inconceivable. When that’s where you start, it’s a tough overhaul to begin to experience that differently. But he did, and he does. Not every time, but enough.
What a world we would live in if we all did that.
