The Flu is a Jerk!

February 1, 2018 by Sonya King Leave a Comment

There is a drawing of Josh with a pillow behind his head and his body covered in a blanket. Meanwhile, he is sweating and has a thermometer in his mouth. The thermometer has flames coming from the end.The flu has been a giant jerk this year!  Even super healthy people have been knocked on their rear-ends from this stuff, and some have even lost their lives.  It’s hit everyone in our house, and fortunately we’re still here…just moving slow and kind of lop-sided.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell when Josh is actually sick or if he’s being melodramatic! He wouldn’t like me saying that! He is actually sick right now though, and soup isn’t even making a dent in how awful he feels.  That’s how I know he’s not exaggerating…if he doesn’t eat, he’s sick.

I wonder if the sensory issues that he experiences make even slight illness seem much worse.  If that’s the case, it makes sense that he seems “melodramatic”…and it sort of makes me a jerk for being unsympathetic.  It causes me think that maybe it’s like my Asthma: when I get a chest cold it hits hard, and effects my breathing, even if it’s relatively minor for others that have the same strand.

I often remind Josh that washing his hands is a big deal, and a great way to avoid getting sick. He only does it when I ask him too, and when he gets sick I wipe the kitchen down with disinfecting solution after he’s been in there. He’s not being a jerk, he just doesn’t think about it. Signs are up in most restaurants reminding employees to wash their hands before going back to work. I hope they do! Ugh, now I’m thinking that I never want to go out to eat again!! Maybe I’m just being melodramatic.

I’m thinking about it…and the only jerk here is the flu! And the person that decided to put a th in the middle of Azma!

About the Josh has Autism Podcast: I never know what he’s going to say. Sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it’s insightful, and sometimes it just doesn’t make any sense at all. So, of course we should record it all, and call it a podcast!
